BTS member RM will be the subject of the upcoming solo documentary, "RM: Right People, Wrong Place".
According to a synopsis, the film directed by Lee Seokjun — who also produced bandmate J-Hope’s videos for “Arson” and “MORE” — will take viewers “through Seoul, Tokyo, and London — cities where RM captured the essence of the album’s visuals, including concept photos and music videos — providing an in-depth look into his creative vision.”
Officially selected to premiere in the “open cinema” portion of the 29th BUSAN International Film Festival (BIFF) at an as-yet-undisclosed time during the October 2-11 event.
The documentary makes use of “various backdrops and diverse artistic collaborations [to] offer an evocative glimpse into his introspection and growth adding depth to the maze-like exploration of RM’s identity as both BTS’s leader and the individual Kim Namjoon (RM’s given name).”
Produced by the group’s agency, HYBE, and distributed by CJ 4DPLEX, the doc will take ARMY on a journey through the eight months leading up to RM’s military enlistment in November 2023 following the release of his debut solo album, "Indigo", in December 2022.
It will also take viewers through the sessions for RM’s second solo LP, "Right Place, Wrong Person", which debuted in June, promising to put a spotlight on the K-pop idol’s “journey of self-discovery as he channels his experiences and emotions into an album that showcases his distinctive sensibility and beliefs through a candid portrayal of feeling like a stranger, out of place.”
Though the exact BIFF screening date has not yet been announced, the release noted that the movie will be shown in a “large-scale outdoor screening” at the Busan Cinema Center, making history as the first movie focused on a K-pop artist to be officially selected for the “Open Cinema” section of Asia’s largest film festival.
"RM: Right People, Wrong Place" will have a global theatrical release later this year.
