Britney Spears has voluntarily checked herself into a rehab treatment facility.
A representative for the pop star confirmed that Spears checked herself in but did not specify the reason.
No further details were provided by Spears’ rep at press time.
Spears’ decision to check herself into a treatment facility comes just over a month after a DUI arrest.
Spears was handcuffed by the California Highway Patrol around 9:30 p.m. on March 5, and she was booked the following day at about 3 a.m.
Spears was released shortly after and is scheduled to appear in court on May 4.
“This was an unfortunate incident that is completely inexcusable. Britney is going to take the right steps and comply with the law and hopefully this can be the first step in long overdue change that needs to occur in Britney’s life,” the artist's rep said in a statement at the time of her arrest. “Hopefully, she can get the help and support she needs during this difficult time.”
The statement continued, “Her boys are going to be spending time with her. Her loved ones are going to come up with an overdue needed plan to set her up for success for well being.”
Though Spears hasn’t commented on the incident, on March 27 she returned to Instagram with a dance clip — alongside her 19-year-old son, Jayden Federline — to show appreciation to her fans, writing: “Thank you guys for all your support… spending time with family and friends is such a blessing. Stay kind !!!”.
Spears recently made headlines after selling her song catalog and an unknown number of other rights to Primary Wave.
In Janurary, she claimed in a since-deleted Instagram post that she “will never perform in the U.S. again because of extremely sensitive reasons.”
Spears was released from her 13-year conservatorship in 2021 that controlled her life, fortune, and freedom.
She has largely kept a low profile since then, outside of some sporadic social media activity.
Spears released her last album, "Glory," in 2016 and presented her last show in the U.S. in 2018, the end of her “Piece of Me” tour at the Formula Grand Prix in Austin, Texas.
She had a second Las Vegas residency lined up for 2019, but she ultimately postponed the show and indefinitely hit pause on performing.
