Oscar winner Brendan Fraser is set to star in the cosmic sci-fi thriller "Starman" from Emmy-winning writer and director Josh Wakely from his original screenplay.

In "Starman," Fraser will portray visionary technologist Tom Adams — an architect of the future — who launches a historic expedition to Mars, positioning himself at the forefront of humanity’s next frontier. But when unforeseen events find him millions of miles from Earth, his mission becomes an unexpected and urgent race against time, driven not by survival alone but by love.

The feature project is a "Grace: A Storytelling" Company production and will be produced by Eddie Vaisman of Sight Unseen. Grace’s Wakely and Rebecca Graham also produce. Filmmaker David S. Goyer (Batman Begins, Batman v. Superman scribe) will executive produce along with Tarek Sherif, Ryan Graves and Sight Unseen’s Julia Lebedev.

Sherif and Graves are financing the feature, which launches principal photography this summer.

Anton will launch sales at the Marché du Film de Cannes, where it will unveil exclusive information about the project.

In addition to starring in Rental Family, he’ll next portray President Dwight D. Eisenhower in Focus Features’ "Pressure," which hits theaters May 29.

He is also set to appear alongside Dustin Hoffman and Bill Murray in Andy Garcia’s "Diamond," which will make its world premiere at Cannes, and he will reprise his iconic role in the upcoming fourth installment of $1.4 billion-grossing "The Mummy" franchise, reteaming with Rachel Weisz.

Fraser’s feature credits include "George of the Jungle," "Journey to the Center of the Earth," "Bedazzled," "Crash," "Gods and Monsters," and "The Quiet American."

On stage, he has appeared in London’s West End production of "Cat on a Hot Tin Roof."
