South Korean superstar Jisoo of Blackpink and British singer Zayn Malik have teamed up for “Eyes Closed,” a new collaborative single released Friday via Warner Records.
The K-pop star began hinting at the surprise, smoldering duet “Eyes Closed,” earlier this week via a mysterious teaser featuring a shadowy male silhouette standing behind her with the cryptic phrase “EYESCLOSED” and the caption “a duet is near.”
The duet explores the theme of new love. The track features both artists trading verses about the exploration and excitement of a new love about diving into romance, with Jisoo singing, “Time is standing still and I don’t want to leave your lips/ Tracing my body with your fingertips,” while Zayn Malik responds, “I know what you’re feeling and I know you want to say it/ I do too, but we gotta be patient.”
The song was accompanied by a futuristic video in which the pair wake from suspended animation on a spaceship as they float in zero gravity, teaming up in an endless hallway to croon the chorus as they zoom toward a landing on Saturn.
The duet comes after Zayn was previously seen attending Blackpink’s New York concert on July 27, accompanied by his daughter, Khai.
After the show, he shared a photo from the event with the caption: "@BLACKPINKOFFICIAL THANK YOU 🙂 ME & KHAI LOVED IT,” sparking curiosity about the connection between the two artists.
The collaboration marks Jisoo's first new music release since her solo EP "Amortage" in February, which featured tracks like “Earthquake,” “Your Love” and “Hugs & Kisses.”
Jisoo is currently on Blackpink’s Deadline world tour, which began in Seoul in July and will resume in Kaohsiung, Taiwan, on October 18 following a brief break after the band's London shows in August.
As for Malik, the singer famously exited One Direction — one of the best-selling boy bands in history — in 2015, launching a successful solo career that’s seen him explore R&B and alternative pop sounds far removed from his 1D days.
He is preparing for his first Las Vegas residency at the Dolby Live at Park MGM, which kicks off a seven-show run on January 20.
