The release of the 3D concert documentary “Billie Eilish: Hit Me Hard and Soft,” which James Cameron co-directed with Eilish, has been delayed by two months, to May 8 via Paramount.

The movie was originally set to launch on March 20 alongside Amazon MGM’s "Project Hail Mary". Now it will face off with "Mortal Kombat II".

“We’re refining the cut; dialing in cool, new 3D tech; adding some special behind-the-scenes we know you’ll love. @hitmehardandsoftmovie will now release Friday, May 8th. Worth the wait!” Cameron revealed on Threads and Instagram.

The project was first announced by Eilish on the last night of the tour in November.

”This is one of my favorite tours everrrrrr and being able to capture it and co-direct this film with [James Cameron] has truly been a dream come true,” she wrote. “Can’t wait for you all to see it," she said.

Made in partnership with Darkroom Records, Interscope Films and Lightstorm Earth, the documentary was shot at concerts including Manchester, England last July.

“Basically, I can’t say much about it but what I can say is that I’m working on something very, very special with somebody named James Cameron and it’s going to be in 3D. So, take that as you will and these four shows here in Manchester, you and me are part of a thing that I am making with him. He’s in this audience somewhere, just saying. So don’t mind that, and also I’ll probably be wearing this exact outfit for like four days in a row,” Eilish told the audience.

"Hit Me Hard And Soft" was nominated for Grammys in 2025, adding to the singer’s total of 34 nominations.

She has nine Grammys to her name as well as two Best Original Song Oscars: one for “What Was I Made For?” from Greta Gerwig’s billion-dollar-grossing Barbie and the other for “No Time to Die” from the 2021 James Bond film. Both are shared with her brother, Finneas O’Connell.

This isn’t the first film to have Eilish as the main subject, R.J. Cutler made a documentary about her titled "The World’s A Little Blurry," which came out in 2021 for Apple.

Cameron’s "Avatar: Fire And Ash," released on December 19, 2025, has raked No. 1 on the domestic box office charts for the first three weekends of January, ending up in second place with $7 million over this past weekend.

“Fire and Ash” has earned $378 million in North America and $1.3 billion globally over six weeks. He has also acquired the rights to the Charles Pellegrino novel “Ghosts of Hiroshima” with the intention to direct the adaptation.
