US actor Ben Affleck is set to reprise his role as Batman in the highly-anticipated movie “Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom“, the sequel to 2018’s “Aquaman“.
Aquaman star Jason Mamoa revealed Thursday the news on Instagram after fans on a Warner Bros. bus tour apparently caught wind that Affleck was there filming with him.
"REUNITED Bruce and Arthur. love u and miss u Ben WB studio tours just explored the backlot alright. busted on set all great things coming AQUAMAN 2 all my aloha j," he captioned.
The announcement came as a surprise since Affleck previously announced his retirement as Batman in 2019 and has been open about the personal and professional strife that came with the role.
“Aquaman” was released in December 2018 and grossed over $1 billion, becoming the only DC movie to reach that number other than Christopher Nolan’s “The Dark Knight” trilogy.
Momoa first starred as Aquaman in 2016’s “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice” and in 2017’s “Justice League”.
The sequel arrives from James Wan and screenwriter David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick. It features Momoa reprising his role of Arthur Curry, also known as Aquaman while Wilson is returning as Orm/Ocean Master, Yahya Abdul-Mateen reprising his role of Black Manta and Dolph Lundgren as King Nereus.
Wan is also producing the movie along with Peter Safran.
“Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom” from Warner Bros. hits theaters on March 17, 2023.
