Sony Chairman Tom Rothman addressed the claims about the suspension of "Bad Boys 4" following Will Smith and Chris Rock's confrontation at the Oscars 2022.
At the March 27 televised event, Smith stormed on stage and slapped Rock over a jab at his wife, Jada Pinkett Smith.
Less than an hour later, Smith gave a tearful speech on stage as he accepted the best actor award for his role in “King Richard”.
Rock’s joke about Smith’s spouse made a reference to the 1997 movie “G.I. Jane” in which actress Demi Moore shaved her head.
Rothman deemed the reports as inaccurate and described the incident as “unfortunate”.
“That movie’s been in development and still is. There weren’t any brakes to pump because the car wasn’t moving,” he stated.
“That was a very unfortunate thing that happened, and I don’t think it’s really my place to comment, except to say that I’ve known Will Smith for many years, and I know him to be a good person. That was an example of a very good person having a very bad moment, in front of the world," Rothman noted.
"I believe his apology and regret is genuine, and I believe in forgiveness and redemption,” he added.
"Bad Boys 4 " was announced in January 2020 and will see Smith and Martin Lawrence reprise their roles as Mike Lowrey and Marcus Burnett.
It will be the follow-up to the 2020 movie "Bad Boys For Life".
