On Sunday, Azhar Grand Imam Sheikh Ahmed el Tayyeb said that he is set to visit Iraq in November, describing Iraq as a “dear country”.
El-Tayyeb revealed that he will visit Baghdad, Najaf, Mosul and Erbil during his trip.
According to the Iraqi embassy in Cairo, the arrangements have been made for the upcoming visit.
He added there will be extensive and important programs and activities during the Al-Azhar chief’s trip to Iraq.
Notably, el Tayyeb received an official invitation during his meeting in March with Iraq's Kurdistan Region Minister of Awqaf and Religious Affairs Pshtiwan to visit Iraq.
During the meeting, Azhar imam asserted that Azhar spares no effort to offer any cultural or scientific support to all Arab and Islamic countries in a bid to promote unity and brotherhood in Islamic and Arab countries and confront challenges facing their peoples.
The Kurdistan minister, for his part, praised the great efforts exerted by Azhar to help the Iraqi region and its residents, noting that Azhar has granted 25 scholarships to Kurdistan students to study in the various Azhar colleges.
