Azerbaijan has officially submitted an application to join BRICS, Azernews reported, citing the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry.
It is worth noting that Azerbaijan has expressed its desire to join BRICS for some time.
The BRICS group was founded in 2006 and is an intergovernmental organization that includes Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa, Egypt, Iran and the United Arab Emirates.
Initially, the group of governments was working to identify investment opportunities, but since 2009 it has turned into a single geopolitical bloc that meets annually at official summits and coordinates multilateral policies.
