"Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings" director Destin Daniel Cretton is set to direct "Avengers: The Kang Dynasty", the first half of the two-part conclusion of Phase 6 of the MCU.
Cretton was chosen after his successful MCU debut with Shang-Chi, which hauled $432 million at the international box office despite the effects of the coronavirus.
"Avengers: The Kang Dynasty" will gather all the heroes of the Marvel Cinematic Universe to fight Jonathan Majors’ Kang the Conquerer, the next big villain to threaten the globe. It will serve as the conclusion of “The Multiverse Saga”, an ambitious project encompassing Phases 4, 5, and 6 of the MCU.
Marvel Studio's previous crossover storyline, “The Infinite Saga,” also ended with two Avengers movies — 2018’s “Avengers: Infinity War” and 2019’s “Avengers: Endgame”.
The studio will wrap up Phase 4 with this November’s "Black Panther: Wakanda Forever". Marvel has been slowly hiring directors for its next batch of movies that will comprise phases 5 and 6.
Marvel announced a slate of new films and TV shows at this year’s Comic-Con. Phase 4 will end with "She-Hulk: Attorney at Law" on Disney+ and "Black Panther: Wakanda Forever" in theaters.
Phase 5 will begin with Ant-Man & The Wasp: Quantamania” in February 2023, a movie that features Kang the Conqueror as its main villain. It will include six movies and six TV series, ending with “Thunderbolts” in mid-2024.
"Avengers: The Kang Dynasty" will premiere in theaters on May 2, 2025, while the "Avengers: Secret Wars" will be available a few months later, on November 7, 2025.
The next Marvel project to hit screens will be She-Hulk while you wait for 2025.
