Art Exhibition Commemorating Naguib Mahfouz

To celebrate the 111th birth anniversary of the late writer Naguib Mahfouz, Cairo Opera House is presenting an art exhibition entitled: 'Haret Nagiub Mahfouz' in Adam Hanin Hall, El-Hanager Arts Center, open from Dec. 10 to 15 January 2022.

The exhibition organized by Culture Development Fund depicts different Mahfouz fictional characters and some of Cairo's iconic neighborhoods.

This will be a great opportunity for the community to view works by 22 very talented artists like Mohammad Al-Taman, Hassan Abdel-Fattah, Ahmed Al-Janaini, Imad Rizk, Khaled Samaha, Samih Abdel-Fadil, Saeed Kamel, Jamal Al-Muji, and the female artists Azza Mostafa.

Mahfouz's seminal work has inspired generations of writers. The subtle genius of his series and movies has left a distinctive mark on the Arab world.

Born in Cairo, on December 11, 1911, Mahfouz was an Egyptian novelist, journalist, and author of several short stories, who penned over a dozen novels, hundreds of short stories, and numerous essays.

He was well-known for his critical, realistic, and centrist approach to controversial topics like social equality and global political changes.

Moreover, his stories encompassed many relevant issues including poverty, injustice, and crime, almost always with a twist of humor.
