Egypt welcomed the decision of Arab foreign ministers to approve the appointment of former Egyptian Foreign Minister Nabil Fahmy as the next Secretary-General of the Arab League, following broad Arab consensus during a ministerial-level meeting of the regional organization.

The approval came after consultations among Arab states and was endorsed by Arab leaders, reflecting support for Fahmy's nomination at a time when the region faces a range of political, economic and security challenges.

Egypt said the decision underscores Arab countries' commitment to strengthening joint Arab action and enhancing the role of the Arab League in addressing regional issues.

Fahmy, a veteran diplomat and former foreign minister, is expected to bring decades of diplomatic experience and extensive international relations expertise to the post. Observers say his appointment comes at a critical juncture for the Arab world, amid ongoing regional crises and growing calls for deeper Arab coordination.

The ministerial meeting also highlighted the importance of reinforcing Arab solidarity and collective action to confront regional challenges and advance common interests.

The appointment marks a new chapter for the Cairo-based Arab League, which has served as the primary platform for coordination among Arab states since its establishment in 1945.
