Following a momentous morning for international sport, the Embassy of Mexico in Cairo officially inaugurated the photographic exhibition “Mexico 2026: Where the Game Lives — Geographies of Mexican Football” at the Cairo Metro. The event served a dual purpose, celebrating Egypt’s historic milestone on the global football stage while bridging Mexican and Egyptian cultures ahead of the FIFA World Cup 2026™.

A Historic Milestone for Egyptian Football

The Embassy of Mexico extended its warmest congratulations to the Egyptian people and the national football team following their spectacular 3-1 comeback victory over New Zealand in Vancouver. The match marked a legendary turning point—Egypt’s first-ever victory in a FIFA World Cup tournament.

"On behalf of the Embassy of Mexico in Cairo, we extend our warmest congratulations to Egypt on its historic victory over New Zealand—marking Egypt’s first-ever win in a FIFA World Cup," stated the Embassy. "This is a truly momentous occasion for Egyptian football, and we are absolutely delighted to celebrate this milestone together with the Egyptian people."

Bringing the World Cup to Public Spaces

Organized in close partnership with Egyptian state authorities, the new exhibition brings the vibrant football culture of Mexico directly to the heart of Cairo’s daily commute.

"It is a great pleasure to announce the official opening of the exhibition ‘Mexico 2026: Where the Game Lives — Geographies of Mexican Football.’ The Embassy of Mexico expresses its profound appreciation to Egypt's Ministry of Transport and the Cairo Metro Authority. Their valuable support and seamless cooperation have been instrumental in making this cultural exhibition a reality."

For Mexico, a co-host of the upcoming 2026 tournament, the essence of the World Cup belongs to the public. The exhibition reflects a shared vision of making the beautiful game accessible to all citizens, inside and outside the stadiums.

"For Mexico, it is vital that the spirit of the World Cup transcends stadium walls and reaches everyone, not just those fortunate enough to attend the matches in person. This vision mirrors our goal for the upcoming World Cup in Mexico: to integrate football, culture, and celebration into public spaces, ensuring the tournament is experienced and enjoyed by the entire population."

Bridging Cairo and Mexico Through the Beautiful Game

By utilizing the Cairo Metro, the exhibition transforms an ordinary public transit space into a gallery of shared human emotion and passion.

A Shared Daily Experience: "Positioning this exhibition within the Cairo Metro is highly symbolic. As a bustling public space utilized by millions daily, it allows us to weave a piece of Mexico into the everyday lives of Cairenes. Through these photographs, we are bridging our two cultures through a shared global passion."

The Diverse Geographies of the Game: "This exhibition captures the diverse geographies of Mexican football. Beyond the grand stadiums of our World Cup host cities, it highlights the community fields, neighborhood streets, and local landscapes where the sport is passionately lived every day."

More Than a Sport: "In Mexico, football is far more than just a sport—it is a cornerstone of community, identity, friendship, and shared emotion. Because in Mexico, the game lives everywhere."

The exhibition is now open to the public across select stations of the Cairo Metro network, offering commuters a visual journey into the landscapes, passion, and spirit awaiting the world in Mexico in 2026.
