Arab League Secretary-General Nabil Fahmy on Sunday urged U.S. President Donald Trump to take swift action to prevent further instability in the Middle East, warning that the region is approaching a "dangerous turning point" amid the war in Gaza and escalating tensions in the Gulf.

Ahead of Trump's expected meeting with the Israeli prime minister, Fahmy called on the U.S. president to press Israel to advance the next phase of the Gaza peace plan launched last October, curb settlement expansion and halt actions in Jerusalem and the occupied West Bank that, he said, undermine prospects for a two-state solution.

Fahmy also urged a rapid return to U.S.-Iran negotiations to reduce regional tensions, reopen secure maritime routes through the Gulf and Bab al-Mandab, and respect the sovereignty of neighboring Arab states. He condemned recent attacks by Iran and the Houthi group against Gulf states, Jordan and international shipping, calling for an immediate de-escalation and renewed diplomacy.
