The Arab League and the United Nations on Monday opened their 17th General Cooperation Meeting at the U.N. headquarters in Geneva, bringing together senior officials and representatives of specialized agencies to strengthen strategic cooperation on regional and global priorities.

The Arab League delegation is headed by Assistant Secretary-General Khaled bin Mohamed Manzalawi, who oversees the international political affairs sector.

Participants are reviewing progress since the previous cooperation meeting and discussing ways to deepen collaboration on peace and security, sustainable development, human rights, food and water security, women, peace and security, youth engagement, and conflict prevention.

The three-day meeting will also address key regional issues, including the Palestinian cause and developments in Syria, Lebanon, Yemen and Libya.

Officials said the gathering reflects the commitment of both organizations to enhance coordination, promote regional stability, advance sustainable development and improve responses to emerging regional and international challenges.
