The Arab League on Monday condemned an Israeli raid on the UN Relief and Works Agency's (UNRWA) Qalandia Training Center in the occupied Palestinian territories, calling it a serious violation of international law and the privileges and immunities of United Nations facilities.
In a statement, the League said Israeli forces, accompanied by officials from Jerusalem's municipality, entered the center for the second time in less than a month and detained students and staff inside.
Assistant Secretary-General and head of the Palestine and Occupied Arab Territories Sector, Ambassador Fayez Mustafa, said the raid violated the 1946 Convention on the Privileges and Immunities of the United Nations, the Fourth Geneva Convention and UN General Assembly resolutions defining UNRWA's mandate.
He urged the United Nations and the Security Council to take immediate action to protect UNRWA facilities and personnel, hold Israel accountable for repeated violations, and ensure the agency can continue providing education and essential services to Palestinian refugees.
