The Arab League said Israeli authorities had refused to allow Secretary-General Nabil Fahmy to visit the occupied Palestinian territories, where he had planned to meet Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas and express support for the Palestinian people.
In a statement on Wednesday, the League's official spokesperson said the visit was intended to be Fahmy's first foreign mission since taking office, reflecting the central importance of the Palestinian issue to the Arab world.
The spokesperson accused Israel of obstructing the visit while Palestinians continue to face mounting restrictions, expanding settlements and escalating violence by settlers under the protection of the occupation authorities.
The Arab League called for greater international efforts to hold Israel accountable for violations against the Palestinian people and reiterated its support for a two-state solution, urging continued action to protect Palestinian rights and end the ongoing occupation.
