In cooperation with the Museum of Islamic Art, the Antiquities Ministry-affiliated Department of Scientific Publications issued a number of new publications, including the Journal of Islamic Archaeology, which had been discontinued for more than 10 years.
This comes within the framework of the ministry’s keenness to promote issuance of new books, journals and scientific magazines to help students and researchers who are interested in archaeology.
On her part, Nagwa Metwally, director general of the ministry’s scientific department, said that the sixth issue of Journal of Islamic Archaeology has been published in a new and developed style to conform to other contemporary books and journals.
She added that the Journal is devoted to the field of Islamic archaeology on a global scale.
“It also includes archaeological studies of Islamic societies, polities, and communities, wherever they are found” she said
“There has never been such interest among both scholars and the informed public alike in the archaeology of Islamic societies”. she noted.
Metwally pointed out that the last few years in particular have witnessed marked growth in the number of conferences and workshops, publications, and university programs with Islamic archaeology as a focus.
“The range of topics invited for the journal is wide, including not only field and ceramic reports, but also studies from other disciplines that are of direct relevance to Islamic archaeology, such as historical geography, art history, history, numismatics, ethnography, and environmental studies," Metwally concluded.
