Hollywood actress and humanitarian Angelina Jolie slammed Israel’s actions in Gaza, while accusing the country of committing war crimes and highlighting the humanitarian crisis facing children in the country.

In a post on her official Instagram account on Sunday, Jolie cited UN estimates that “an estimated 132,000 children below the age of five in Gaza are projected to be at risk of death from acute malnutrition.”

Accompanying the post, Jolie wrote a lengthy caption criticizing the international community’s response to the war.

She pointed out that human rights are inherent and should not depend on nationality or location.

“It is shattering to see that so many innocent lives, and principles so many of us stand by and believe in, are being disregarded in this way,” Jolie noted.

She also criticized the selective defense of human rights by the United Nations and other global powers, arguing that some lives are treated as “important” while others are considered to be “disposable.”

The actress also expressed alarm over the long-term consequences of global inaction, stating that “this reshapes the world. Shocking new precedents are being set that will mean that civilians are even more vulnerable in conflict in the future than they are today. Whether from starvation, or attacks on hospitals or schools.”

She concluded her statement by stressing accountability, noting, “Those who have the power to uphold international humanitarian law, but do nothing, share responsibility. The things we tolerate come to define us.”

Jolie, who has long been involved in humanitarian advocacy, has previously spoken out on issues including refugees, conflict zones, and children’s rights.
