Hollywood star Angelina Jolie will write, direct and produce the movie “Without Blood”, starring Salma Hayek and Demián Bichir.
Jolie is creating the movie alongside super-indie Fremantle, with which she struck a three-year international filmmaking agreement in March.
Principal photography has begun in the Puglia and Basilicata regions of southern Italy as well as in Rome.
The movie is based on the international bestselling novel by Italian writer Alessandro Baricco of the same time.
It is set in the aftermath of an unidentified conflict and explores universal truths about war, trauma, memory, and healing.
The movie is produced by Fremantle; Jolie’s production banner Jolie Productions; Fremantle-backed The Apartment Pictures, founded by Lorenzo Mieli; and De Maio Entertainment, founded by Lorenzo De Maio.
“Without Blood” will be distributed worldwide by Fremantle.
The movie is Jolie’s fifth movie to direct and her first under her filmmaking deal with Fremantle in March.
Jolie and Fremantle will jointly develop an internationally focused slate of movies, documentaries, and original series.
Jolie and Hayek collaborated earlier this year in Marvel Cinematic Universe’s latest chapter “Eternals”.
The movie takes place after “Avengers: Endgame”, and sees the godlike creatures coming out of the shadows to continue their generations-long conflict with the Deviants after a tragic event takes place.
The Eternals are a fictional race of humanoids appearing in American comic books published by Marvel Comics.
The star-studded cast includes Kit Harington, Angelina Jolie, Kumail Nanjiani, Lauren Ridloff, Brian Tyree Henry, Lia McHugh, Don Lee, Gemma Chan, Barry Keoghan, Richard Madden, and others.
The movie is directed by Chloe Zhao and written by Matthew and Ryan Firpo.
“Eternals” is produced by Marvel Studios and distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures and marks the twenty-fifth movie in MCU.
