Andrew Garfield and Florence Pugh's romance “We Live in Time” will close the 72nd San Sebastian Film Festival’s official selection, screening out of competition.
The film will have its world premiere at Toronto and its European premiere at San Sebastian.
Written by Nick Payne and directed by John Crowley, “We Live in Time” stars Pugh and Garfield as two people whose lives are forever changed when an accident brings them together.
The movie's official synopsis reads: "Almut (Pugh) and Tobias (Garfield) are brought together in a surprise encounter that changes their lives. Through snapshots of their life together – falling for each other, building a home, becoming a family – a difficult truth is revealed that rocks its foundation. As they embark on a path challenged by the limits of time, they learn to cherish each moment of the unconventional route their love story has taken, in filmmaker John Crowley's decade-spanning, deeply moving romance."
The film has Benedict Cumberbatch among its executive producers and was directed by John Crowley and based on a screenplay developed by Olivier award-winning playwright Nick Payne.
"We Live in Time" reunites Crowley with Garfield. They previously worked together on the 2007 drama "Boy A".
Garfield, who previously collaborated with Crowley on “Boy A,” has garnered critical acclaim for roles in “The Social Network” and “Hacksaw Ridge.”
He has earned two Academy Award nominations for best actor, for “tick, tick… BOOM!” and “Hacksaw Ridge.” Garfield also portrayed Spider-Man in “The Amazing Spider-Man” franchise.
Pugh, an Oscar nominee for “Little Women,” has appeared in films such as “Lady Macbeth” and “Midsommar,” with her performance in the former earning her the FIPRESCI Prize at San Sebastian. Her recent works include “Don’t Worry Darling,” “Oppenheimer” and “Dune: Part Two.”
“We Live in Time” is scheduled for release in Spanish cinemas on January 3, 2025, distributed by Beta Fiction Spain.
