Ms. Yomna El-Bahar, Vice Minister of Tourism and Antiquities, and Dr. Mohamed Ismail Khaled, Secretary-General of the Supreme Council of Antiquities, inaugurated the exhibition "Ancient Egypt Uncovers Itself: Treasures from the Egyptian Museums." The exhibition is hosted by the Hong Kong Palace Museum from November 18, 2025, until August 31, 2026.

During the inauguration ceremony, Ms. Yomna El-Bahar delivered a speech expressing her pride in participating in this prominent cultural event in Hong Kong, which builds upon the great success of the "Pyramid Summit: Ancient Egyptian Civilization" exhibition at the Shanghai Museum. She highlighted the depth of Egyptian-Chinese relations, noting that the two nations will celebrate the 70th anniversary of their diplomatic relations next year.

The Vice Minister spoke about the importance of the exhibition, which features 250 distinctive artifacts, serving as a bridge connecting the glorious past of the Egyptian civilization, which enlightened the world, with the present. She affirmed that the greatness of this civilization transcends time and space. She also outlined the three main axes of the exhibition’s display narrative: Royal Egypt, Tutankhamun, and the Secrets of Saqqara.

She explained that organizing such events acts as a bridge for communication between cultures, showcasing the heritage of Egyptian civilization and its enduring capacity to inspire. She emphasized that this role is one of the most important pillars of Egypt's soft power, confirming its ability to influence people around the world. She added that these cultural events confirm that human civilizations evolve and interact through continuous exchange and do not thrive in isolation.

Following the inauguration ceremony, the officials toured the various halls dedicated to the exhibition.

On the sidelines of the event, Ms. Yomna El-Bahar conducted media interviews with several prominent Chinese and international media outlets, including CCTV, Xinhua, China Daily, TVB, and the South China Morning Post (SCMP).

These interviews focused on the importance of Egyptian-Chinese relations, especially as the 70th anniversary of diplomatic ties approaches, alongside reviewing the significance of hosting the exhibition and the rationale for choosing Hong Kong. Attention was also drawn to the role of temporary archaeological exhibitions abroad in strengthening cultural relations between peoples, promoting Egyptian civilization's treasures as a key component of the state’s soft power, and supporting tourism promotion for Egypt.

The discussions also touched upon the ongoing cooperation between the two countries in the field of antiquities, in addition to mentioning the Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM) as one of the most significant cultural projects the world has recently witnessed.

It is noteworthy that the exhibition features 250 distinguished artifacts selected from a group of Egyptian museums, including the Egyptian Museum in Tahrir, the Marsa Matruh National Museum, the Kafr El Sheikh National Museum, the Luxor Museum of Ancient Egyptian Art, and the Sohag National Museum.

The exhibition also includes newly discovered pieces from the Saqqara archaeological site, in addition to a select group of artifacts previously displayed in the "Pyramid Summit: Ancient Egyptian Civilization" exhibition in Shanghai.
