Comedian Amy Schumer took a jibe at Australian actress Nicole Kidman for the way she watched the US Open tennis tournament on Monday.
Schumer, 42, took to Instagram to share a photo of the acclaimed actress, 56, intensely watching the women’s singles final between Coco Gauff and Aryna Sabalenka at Arthur Ashe Stadium on Saturday.
“This how human sit,” Schumer captioned the since-deleted photo.
Commenters weren’t thrilled with Schumer’s humor.
“Are you cyberbullying Oscar and Emmy winner Nicole Kidman rn,” one person wrote, as a second added: “Stop it. She can sit however she pleases.”
A third noted: “You’re a woman who claims to support other women why are you making fun of another woman. Knock it off. She’s beautiful and so are you.”
In an earlier post, the “Trainwreck” actress mocked herself, sharing a photo from the stands of her shocked expression as she watched the game with her husband, Chris Fischer.
“Me watching @sagaftra actors do press at Venice,” she quipped. (Gauff, 19, went on to win her first Grand Slam victory.)
Kidman is used to getting the last laugh, though. In March 2017, she explained her bizarre clapping technique, which she displayed at the Oscars that year. When she stood up to support Viola Davis for winning best supporting actress for her work in “Fences,” she clapped with what many social media users described as a seal.
“It was really awkward,” Kidman told KISS FM’s “Kyle And Jackie O” radio show of the moment caught on camera — and zoomed in on. “I was like, ‘I wanna clap, I don’t wanna not be clapping’ — that’d be worse, right? Like ‘Why isn’t Nicole clapping?’ So therefore I’m clapping but it was really difficult because I had a huge ring on that was not mine — but it was absolutely gorgeous — and I was terrified of damaging it.”
The Oscar winner later appeared on “The Ellen DeGeneres Show,” and reiterated: “I don’t clap like that! I do not clap like that. [The jewels] went back beautifully intact, not a scratch on them.”
Kidman can even laugh at herself. In March, she smiled alongside husband Keith Urban when 95th Academy Awards host Jimmy Kimmel gave her a shoutout about her viral ad for AMC movie theaters.
“I am happy to see that Nicole Kidman has finally been released from that abandoned AMC,” Kimmel, 55, said on stage. “Where she has been held captive for almost two full years now. It’s good to have you back Nicole.”
