Amy Madigan burst into a witch-like cackle as she accepted her first Oscar for best supporting actress on Sunday night.

It was fitting because she won the award for her performance as the parasitic witch Aunt Gladys in Zach Cregger’s mystery horror film “Weapons.”

At 75, she is the second-oldest Oscar winner ever in the supporting actress category.

“This is great! I mean, everybody is asking me in the press, ‘Well, it’s been 40 years,’ and, you know, ‘What’s different about this time?’ What’s different is this little gold guy,” Madigan said on stage, referring to her Oscar statuette. “I mean, I was in the shower last night trying to think of something to say as I was shaving my legs. Now, when I got pants on, I don’t have to worry about that. Sorry. And, you know, we were kind of advised that, you know, don’t say all these names because nobody knows who the hell these people are — but you’re not rattling them off. They’re people that mean something to you, that you couldn’t be here without them.”

Madigan acknowledged Cregger, saying the filmmaker “wrote a dream part, and he let me just grab it by the throat.”

She also thanked her family, including her husband Ed Harris, who was in the audience during the ceremony.

Madigan was previously nominated for a supporting actress Oscar in 1986 for “Twice in a Lifetime,” and her nomination this year set a record for the longest gap between nominations.

This year, she won SAG-AFTRA’s Actor Award for supporting actress and was also nominated for a Golden Globe.

During her Oscars acceptance speech, Madigan recognized her fellow nominees: Wunmi Mosaku (“Sinners”), Teyana Taylor (“One Battle After Another”), Elle Fanning (“Sentimental Value”) and Inga Ibsdotter Lilleaas (“Sentimental Value”).

She said, “When I was doing all the ‘Weapons’ stuff, I was kind of traveling on my own, and people from ‘One Battle’ and people from ‘Sinners’ and all the films — they just kind of gave me a hug and said, ‘Come on in. Let us know you, and you can know us.’”
