Amazon announced on Friday bonuses worth $500 million for employees on the eve of Black Friday, as it comes under pressure from a global campaign targeting its business practices and a strike in one of its biggest European markets. At this stage, the movement has "no consequence on delivery to customers, because most employees work normally," Amazon assures AFP for its part.

Meanwhile, Amazon’s senior vice president for worldwide operations Dave Clark, explained that front-line US employees will receive a $300 bonus, while part-time employees will get $150. UK employees will receive bonuses of $400 and $200, respectively.

Clark added; ''the company is spending $2.5 billion this year on special bonuses and incentives for teams globally, including the ''thank you'' bonus it paid workers in June.''

On other hand, Amazon has been one of few retailers to thrive amid the pandemic. The company expects revenues to exceed $100 billion for the first time in the fourth quarter, bringing total sales for 2020 to more than $370 billion — a third higher than last year, according to News reportes.

Earlier, Amazon released its own online pharmacy that will allow customers to buy medicines. the firm, which acquired online pharmacy Pillpack for $753m (£568) in 2018, reported that health data would remain separate and distinct from that on its retail site and no information would be shared with advertisers without permission, according to AFP.

Meanwhile, Amazon Prime members are eligible for free two-day delivery and discounts of up to 80% on generic medicines and 40% on prescribed brand-name drugs, as the firm reported.
