Amazon released on Tuesday, its own online pharmacy that will allow customers to buy medicines. the firm, which acquired online pharmacy Pillpack for $753m (£568) in 2018, reported that health data would remain separate and distinct from that on its retail site and no information would be shared with advertisers without permission, according to AFP.

Meanwhile, Amazon Prime members are eligible for free two-day delivery and discounts of up to 80% on generic medicines and 40% on prescribed brand-name drugs, as the firm reported.

On other hand, the breaking into the drugs industry opened up a consumer market worth more than $300bn. In addition, the recurring nature of pharmacy, and relatively small package size, should also integrate well into Amazon’s existing logistics orders to increase gross profit dollars per shipment.

Noteworthy, the firm has a history of disruption. Launched in 1995 as an online book store, it pushed other booksellers to sell online. But those that couldn’t keep up went out of business, like the Borders bookstore chain, which disappeared in 2011.
