Amanda Seyfried and Sydney Sweeney's "The Housemaid" Sets Release Date

Amanda Seyfried and Sydney Sweeney's film adaptation of author Freida McFadden’s hit psychological thriller book “The Housemaid,” has landed a Christmas Day 2025 release from Lionsgate.

Brandon Sklenar (“It Ends With Us,” “1923”) and Michele Morrone (“365 Days,” “Subservience”) also star in the suspense film.

“Bridesmaids” and “A Simple Favor” filmmaker Paul Feig will direct the psychological thriller for Lionsgate. Rebecca Sonnenshine is adapting the screenplay.

In the film, Sweeney will play Millie, a struggling young woman who is relieved to get a fresh start as a housemaid to wealthy couple Nina (Seyfried) and Andrew.

“Millie soon learns the family’s se crets are far more dangerous than her own," according to the official logline.

Seyfried, the star of “Mamma Mia” and “The Dropout,” and Sweeney, best known for “Euphoria” and the rom-com “Anyone But You,” will serve as executive producers alongside Alex Young and McFadden.

Hidden Pictures executive Todd Lieberman will produce while Carly Kleinbart Elter will oversee the project for Hidden Pictures. Feig and Laura Fischer are also producing.

Chelsea Kujawa and Erin Jones-Wesley are overseeing for Lionsgate. Robert Melnik negotiated the deals for the studio.

“The Housemaid” novel, published in 2022, is a No. 1 New York Times bestseller that’s sold over 1 million copies.

It spawned follow-up books “The Housemaid’s Secret,” “The Housemaid’s Wedding” and “The Housemaid is Watching.”
