\Many Hollywood stars were affected as multiple fires ravaged Los Angeles in early January, with wind gusts topping 100 miles per hour in the Palisades, Eaton, and surrounding regions.
California Governor Gavin Newsom declared a state of emergency, forcing more than 100,000 Los Angeles residents to evacuate their homes.
Here is a look at the celebrities who have fled to protect their families’ lives and their own.
Paris Hilton
Paris Hilton’s beachfront property was destroyed when the Palisades Fire made its way to Malibu. The hotel heiress said she was “heartbroken beyond words” to see her vacation home “burn to the ground on live TV” in a lengthy Instagram statement.
She confirmed that her family was safe and said her 11:11 Media Impact team was coming up with ways to “best support” victims.
Hilton and her husband, Carter Reum, purchased the scenic Malibu home for $8.4 million. The tragic event came five months after the “Simple Life” alum’s trailer burned down on the set of her music video last summer.
Heidi Montag and Spencer Prat
Heidi Montag and Spencer Pratt announced that they were one of the many who lost their home due to the blaze, with the latter posing just a few yards away from the fiery home.
A source later revealed that the Montag and Pratt residence “burned to the ground.”
In a heartfelt post, Pratt shared on Instagram that the “one positive sign” of the fire was that his son’s bed “burned in the shape of a heart.”
The “Hills” alum concluded, “A sign of how much love was in this house so thankful for all the years and memories there with our family.”
Leighton Meester and Adam Brody
Adam Brody and Leighton Meester’s lavish $6.5 million Los Angeles property also burned down.
A shot showed the couple’s five-bedroom, six-bedroom house ravaged by flames and fire bursting through a garage door, with the roof completely burned off.
The couple — who celebrated Brody’s Golden Globes nomination just days before the massive blaze — did not immediately comment on the devastating matter.
Anna Faris
Anna Faris was yet another Hollywood star to lose her multimillion-dollar mansion because of the blaze. Faris’ mansion was eco-friendly. The “House Bunny” star purchased the Pacific Palisades property for $4.9 million in 2018.
Miles Teller
Miles Teller and his wife, Keleigh Teller, lost their dream home in Pacific Palisades, which they just bought for $7.5 million, as a result of the wildfire.
A photo showed the “Top Gun: Maverick” star’s property completely burned to the ground, with only materials from its foundation remaining. A vehicle parked in the driveway of the home was also badly burned, per the images.
Neither Miles nor Keleigh has commented on the loss of their home yet, but the latter shared an Instagram Story post advising her neighbors to leave behind water bowls for animals trying to escape.
Eugene Levy
Actor Eugene Levy told the Los Angeles Times on January 7 that he got trapped in traffic due to other fleeing residents attempting to leave his Pacific Palisades neighborhood.
“The smoke looked pretty black and intense over Temescal Canyon,” the “American Pie” star said. “I couldn’t see any flames, but the smoke was very dark.”
It was later revealed that Levy’s house did not survive the massive fire.
A photo showed what remained after the “Schitt’s Creek” alum’s property succumbed to the fire. His son, Dan Levy, posted on his Instagram Story, “Heartbroken for my family, my friends and the people of LA affected by the catastrophic fires.”
Milo Ventimiglia
Milo Ventimiglia choked back tears while visiting the remains of his Malibu, Calif., home, which burned down in the Palisades Fire.
“You start thinking about all the memories and the different parts of the house and whatnot and then you see your neighbors’ houses and everything around and your heart just breaks,” the “This Is Us” star told CBS News on January 9.
The tragedy struck as the actor and his pregnant wife, Jarah Mariano, are expecting their first child together. The couple — who secretly tied the knot in 2023 — watched their house go up in flames on the security cameras.
“And at a certain point, we just turned it off,” Ventimiglia said. “What good is it to continue watching? We kind of accepted the loss.”
Julia Louis-Dreyfus and Brad Hall
Julia Louis-Dreyfus and her husband, Brad Hall, are another celebrity couple whose home perished in the Palisades Fire this week. The pair bought the five-bedroom, five-bathroom Mediterranean-style house in the early 1990s. It has been reduced to ashes, as seen above.
Anthony Hopkins
Anthony Hopkins’ home in Pacific Palisades was reduced to a pile of debris after the fires. A photo showed the Oscar winner’s house completely burned down. Hopkins has not yet commented on the destruction.
Before living in the residence that was ravaged by the fire, the “Silence of the Lambs” star lived in another mansion in the same neighborhood for 25 years.
Billy Crystal
Billy Crystal was also among the growing number of stars who lost their homes due to the California fires.
The comedian’s property in Pacific Palisades burned down, with a photo showing that only the tennis court remained intact. In 2018, Crystal gushed about his neighborhood, telling the Associated Press that it was the “perfect combination of the present and the future.”
“It’s got so many lovely places and spirit about it. The approach of the environment is here, there’s free bikes,” he said at the time. “… There’s great food … There’s all kinds of things that are there for everybody.”
John Goodman
John Goodman’s house in Los Angeles was reduced to ashes as a result of the California fires.
Not a single room was left standing in the “Roseanne” alum’s home, as seen in a horrific photo. The image also showed the blackened swimming pool that remains in the backyard after the blaze.
Goodman has not yet released a statement on his loss or the tragic events.
Cameron Mathison
Soap star Cameron Mathison announced via his Instagram Story that he and his family were able to safely evacuate alongside a video of the massive flames.
However, the “General Hospital” star then shared a separate, eerie video, in which he drove around his neighborhood, as most of its homes were engulfed by fire.
“The last property is where our house was,” he captioned the clip.
Mathison then stepped out of his car to walk around what little remained of the property, writing over another video, “We are safe But this is what’s left of our beautiful home.
“Our home where our kids were raised and where they wanted to raise their own someday.” He added, ”Thanks to all who reached out and checked in. Can’t respond to all so wanted to give an update here. Sending so many prayers to everyone being affected by these fires🙏🏼.”
Cobie Smulders
Cobie Smulders’ Pacific Palisades home burned down in the Palisades Fire rapidly sweeping through Los Angeles. The “How I Met Your Mother” star and her husband, Taran Killam, purchased the $5.6 million house in 2017 and spent a year on renovations.
In 2018, she told Architectural Digest that her biggest splurge for the house was solar panels and the most unexpected thing she added was a 40-year-old photo booth.
Diane Warren
Diane Warren confirmed her beloved beach house was destroyed by the California fires by sharing a photo of her sentimental rock.
“This is the last pic I took of Leah’s rock from my beach house,” the iconic songwriter captioned a photo of the rock in the ocean.
“I’ve had this house for almost 30 years. It looks like it was lost in the fire last nite. There’s a rainbow shining on it which I’m taking as a sign of hope for all creatures who have been affected by this tragedy,” she continued. “The animals and the rescue ranch are OK tho which is the most important thing. Stay safe everyone.❤️💔.”
Melissa Rivers
Melissa Rivers — daughter of the late Joan Rivers — told CNN that her home perished in the LA fires.
“I grabbed my mom’s Emmy, a photo of my dad and a drawing my mother had done of me and my son,” she said. “It’s amazing what you grab. … I went for a drawing of my mother’s, rather than a photo ’cause I know I can find the photos. [A drawing] I can’t replace.”
Melissa added that her “heart is so broken” for all those affected.
Cary Elwes
The “Princess Bride” star Cary Elwes confirmed his family lost their house to the fires.
“Firstly, myself and my family are all safe, thank God. Sadly we did lose our home but we are grateful to have survived this truly devastating fire,” he wrote on Instagram.
“Our hearts go out to all the families impacted by this tragic event and we also wish to extend our gratitude to all the firefighters, first responders and law enforcement who worked so tirelessly through the night and are still at it.”
He added, ”We want to thank everyone for the incredible outpouring of support. It really means a great deal to us.”
Ben Affleck
Ben Affleck was forced to evacuate his home and seek safer shelter further away from the impact area. He fled to ex-wife Jennifer Garner’s home, who reportedly lives nearby since the still friendly exes share three kids.
Mandy Moore
Mandy Moore announced via her Instagram Story, “Evacuated and safe with kids, dog and cats.”
The “This Is Us” star, who shares three young children with husband Taylor Goldsmith, added that she is “praying and grateful for the first responders.”
It’s unclear whether Moore had to leave the $6 million mid-century property she has been trying to sell since last summer or if the family was already settled into a new place. Fortunately, her home was spared from the fire.
Alabama Barker and Landon Barker
Travis Barker’s two oldest children, Alabama and Landon Barker, announced via social media that they were among the evacuees in Los Angeles.
“Just evacuated from my home due to wild fires in Los Angeles, please be safe !!” Alabama wrote. “They are saying the fires are spreading football field amounts in seconds.”
Landon added alongside a selfie on his Instagram Story, “praying for everyone the fires have affected.” It’s unclear whether the siblings were forced to leave their father Travis’ home, which the Blink-182 drummer shares with his wife Kourtney Kardashian.
The reality star revealed she and the drummer finally moved in together nearly two years after their wedding because of the birth of their son, Rocky.
Ricki Lake
Ricki Lake took to Instagram on January 8 to tragically announce that her home was “all gone” due to the California wildfires.
“It’s all gone. 💔 I can’t believe I am typing these words,” the former talkshow host captioned a photo carousel of her home.
“After a valiant and brave effort by our friend and hero @kirbykotler_ Ross and I lost our dream home. This description ‘dream home’ doesn’t suffice. It was our heaven on earth,” her lengthy caption continued.
“The place where we planned to grow old together. We never took our heavenly spot on the bluff overlooking our beloved malibu for granted, not even for one second.”
She went on to call the loss an “immeasurable” one as the home was also where she tied the knot with Ross Burningham in 2022.
Sandra Lee
Sandra Lee was also a victim of the ravaging fires.
“As the fire draws closer, I pray for it—- I pray for everyone in Los Angeles right now. What an incredibly terrifying moment for my community,” she captioned a series of videos shared to Instagram on January 7.
“As the fire reaches our doorstep, please stay in contact with each other; Community in times like these is our lifeline.”
Although she said she was “safe,” Lee returned to social media the following day to confirm that her home was “gone.”
“My house is gone-I cried all night and thought about every room, nook, and cranny. It was perfection and now it’s just Ash,” she said.

James Woods
James Woods, known for starring in films such as “Once Upon a Time in America,” initially took to X to reveal he was fleeing his estate by sharing a video of the blaze approaching his property.
“Leaving,” the “Hercules” star wrote in one post. He then added, “Hope everybody gets out safely.”
Woods later showed a close-up video of the fire directly on the outskirts of his backyard, and another of a nearby home on fire.
In a separate tweet, Woods thanked “all the wonderful people” who reached out to him and his family, and shared that they were “able to evacuate successfully.”
He concluded, “I do not know at this moment if our home is still standing, but sadly houses on our little street are not.”
Three days later, he revealed that his house — which he was told was “gone forever” — was “still standing.”
“In this hellish landscape ‘standing’ is relative, but smoke and other damage is not like the utter destruction around us,” he explained, while also sharing a video of his property.
Mark Hamill
“Star Wars” actor Mark Hamill shared via social media that he had to evacuate his home in Malibu, Calif., and he witnessed “small fires on both sides of the road” as he left.
He then sent well-wishes to others, adding, “Most horrific fire since ‘93 🔥🔥STAY SAFE! 🙏 🔥🔥.”
Jennifer Love Hewitt
Jennifer Love Hewitt shared a photo via Instagram of her driving past fiery flames and said, “I have no words.”
“Only prayers and holding as much hope as I can for our home and our kids while we watch everything burn,” the “I Know What You Did Last Summer” star continued. “Thank you to every first responder fighting so hard for all of us. Thank you to every friend who reached out and new person I have hugged in tears in the last 24 hours. 💔🙏🏻”
Steve Guttenberg
“Police Academy” star Steve Guttenberg, who also lives in the area, urged residents who abandoned their vehicles to leave their car keys so fire engines can get through.
“This is not a parking lot,” the actor told KTLA5. “We really need people to move their cars.
“There are people stuck up there. So we’re trying to clear Palisades Drive and I’m walking up there as far as I can moving cars.” He insisted, “There are families up there, there are pets up there. There are people who really need help.”
Whitney Cummings
Whitney Cummings shared via her Instagram Story that she is “OK” but was forced to evacuate.
The comedian noted that although people may be hesitant to leave because it “clogs the roads,” she advised, “this fire is moving so fast that [it is] not the time to take chances.” She concluded, “This changes everything forever.”
Maria Shriver
Maria Shriver lamented in an Instagram post the “heartbreaking, devastating, beyond belief” wildfire alongside video footage a journalist took of the wreckage left behind.
“Everything is gone,” the former first lady of California, who was married to ex-Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger, said.
“Our neighborhood, our restaurants. All our friends have lost everything. We have evacuated, but are safe. But people have lost everything.”
Shriver praised the firefighters but noted the blaze was “massive and out of control.”
“We in this city will put our arms around one another. We will rise, but right now these fire continues to burn,” she continued. “People need to stay safe, stay out of harms way, and allow firefighters do what they can to help those.”

Jen Atkin
Celebrity hairstylist Jen Atkin took to her Instagram Story on January 8 to announce that she and her husband, Mike Rosenthal, had lost their home in the fires.
“This is weird to post but our house is gone,” she captioned a selfie of herself crying in the car. “We just got confirmation. Our whole area demolished. So many are displaced and feeling scared right now it’s almost too much to comprehend.”
The Ouai founder said that they will “be OK” since they “always push thru [sic].” Atkin — who has worked with the Kardashian-Jenner family — also shared before-and-after photos of her home that was destroyed.

Jhené Aiko
Jhené Aiko revealed on January 9 that her home had burned down during the LA fires.
“Me and my children’s home is gone, burned to the ground with all of our things inside,” she posted on Instagram. “Lord have mercy. Thankful we still have eachother. starting from scratch. My heart is so heavy.”
Aiko is mom to daughter Namiko Love, 16, and son Noah Hasani, 2.
Jeff Bridges
Jeff Bridges’ family home in Malibu was lost in the Palisades fire, his rep confirmed on January 9.
The four-bedroom residence with views of the Pacific Ocean had been in the Bridges family for generations. The house was reportedly inherited by the actor, his brother, fellow actor Beau Bridges, and their sister. Jeff, he did not live in the home.
Candy Spelling
Tori Spelling’s mom, Candy Spelling, lost her $23 million vacation home in Malibu as a result of the Palisades Fire.
“I’m in shock and processing this massive loss for our family,” Candy said on January 9. “I am beyond grateful for the memories. It was truly a wonderful gift to have.”
The Broadway producer added that her late husband, famed TV and film producer Aaron Spelling, “loved” the beachfront property. The residence had been Candy’s home for the last 52 years.
Joshua Jackson
Joshua Jackson’s Topanga Canyon home was destroyed in one of Los Angeles’ wildfires.
The “Dawson’s Creek” alum purchased the cliffside house on the border of Malibu in 2001 for $865,000. It had four bedrooms and two bathrooms. A vintage Volkswagen Khamann Ghia sports car also burned in the driveway, as seen in the photo above.
“First and most importantly, all the people closest to me affected by the fire are ok. My daughter, my family, my neighbors all made it out safely,” Jackson said in a statement on January 12.
“Sadly my beautiful home did not survive the fires. But today, I feel incredibly lucky to be surrounded by the people I love.”
Bella Hadid
Bella Hadid’s childhood home — previously belonging to her mom, Yolanda Hadid — was wiped out.
The model took to her Instagram Story on January 8 to share a photo of the Malibu property on fire and another of the home burned to the ground. The estate, often featured on “The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills,” was sold by Yolanda in 2015.
Eva Longoria
Eva Longoria shared she evacuated her Los Angeles residence but has since returned home, where she’s been hosting several friends.
The “Desperate Housewives” star took to Instagram on January 12 to reflect on having to leave after receiving a warning alert on her phone.
Longoria acknowledged that she was “lucky” to be able to return and shared she plans to donate to This Is About Humanity to assist frontline workers and families affected by the fires.

Deon Cole
Deon Cole evacuated his home shortly after being discharged from the hospital due to the Los Angeles fires.
On January 9, the “Black-ish” alum shared a selfie of himself in a hospital bed with IVs running through his arms in honor of his 53rd birthday.
“Thank u all for your birthday well wishes. I sure could use them. Thank you all,” he captioned the post.
Though Cole did not disclose what health issues he was dealing with, the following day, the comedian said he had been discharged from the hospital and had to immediately pack some of his belongings to evacuate his home as the flames continued to destroy the area.
“This day is devastating!!!!” he captioned an Instagram video of himself driving away from his home.
“Left the hospital earlier, sick af, went home, then had to packed [sic] what I could to evacuate. As I drove away I seen the fire rising from behind my house, It’s a nightmare!!!” he added.
The “Deon Cole: OK, Mister” star was able to take the flowers his mom, Charleen Cole, gave him before she died in September 2021.
Mel Gibson
Mel Gibson has lost his Malibu home in the Los Angeles wildfires while he was in Austin to record a podcast interview with Joe Rogan.
In a telephone interview on NewsNation’s Elizabeth Vargas Reports, the "Lethal Weapon" actor tried to remain upbeat as he spoke at length about the “devastating” feeling of losing the home he had lived in for 14 to 15 years.
“Obviously, it’s kind of devastating. It’s emotional,” Gibson said to host Elizabeth Vargas. “You live there for a long time, and you had all your stuff. You remember George Carlin talking about your stuff? I had my stuff there, and it’s all like, I’ve been relieved from the burden of my stuff, because it’s all in cinders.”
When asked about where he was during the fire that consumed his home, Gibson said he was in Austin, Texas, at the time to record an episode of the Joe Rogan Experience. “I was doing the Rogan podcast … And [I was] kind of ill at ease while we were talking, because I knew my neighborhood was on fire, so I thought, ‘I wonder if my place is still there.’ But when I got home, sure enough, it wasn’t there. I went home and I said to myself, ‘Well, at least I haven’t got any of those pesky plumbing problems anymore.'”
Gibson said that his wife, Rosalind Ross, and their son, Lars, were safe as they had evacuated their home.
Ed Harris
Gibson said his neighbor, actor Ed Harris, also lost his home. “I think his place is gone. And many of my friends, up and down the street,” Gibson continued. “It was kind of random, it wasn’t every place, but it was quite a few places. There were a dozen places or so that were just nonexistent … It’s the perfect firestorm. I mean, my place looked like Dresden.”
Tina Knowles
Beyoncé's mother Tina Knowles revealed she lost her Malibu bungalow to the fires.
"It was my favourite place, my sanctuary, my sacred happy place. Now it is gone," she wrote on Instagram.
Knowles went on to thank "all the brave men and women in our fire department who risked their lives in dangerous conditions".
Her message was accompanied by a video of the ocean view from her bungalow, which she took just last weekend on her birthday.
