As part of celebrations marking Alexandria Governorate’s National Day, Egypt’s Minister of Tourism and Antiquities, Sherif Fathy, has announced that all archaeological sites and select museums in Alexandria will be open free of charge to the public on Thursday, July 24, 2025.
The initiative includes complimentary access to major cultural landmarks such as the Graeco-Roman Museum, the Royal Jewelry Museum, and the National Museum of Alexandria. The decision underscores the ministry’s commitment to supporting national and cultural events while promoting public awareness of Egypt’s rich historical and archaeological heritage.
In a statement, the ministry explained that the move is designed not only to honor Alexandria’s historic contributions but also to strengthen cultural engagement among Egyptians—particularly the younger generations—and to encourage domestic tourism during the summer season.
"This initiative serves as an invitation for citizens and visitors alike to explore Alexandria’s unique blend of history, art, and architecture,” the ministry said. “It aims to highlight the city's pivotal role as a leading coastal and historical destination in Egypt.”
Alexandria, long considered a cultural gem on the Mediterranean, boasts a deep-rooted history dating back to antiquity. Through this initiative, the city opens its doors for locals and tourists to rediscover its legacy, from ancient ruins to royal artifacts, and to celebrate its vibrant identity across the centuries.
