Alexandria Opera Performs Songs of Abdel Halim, Shadia

The audience of Alexandria spends a singing evening, bringing together a selection of the most beautiful works of Abdel Halim Hafez and Shadia, led by Maestro Mohamed El Mougy, and hosted by Sayed Darwish Theater, Alexandria Opera House.

Abdel Halim Hafez is one of the symbols of Arabic singing and the most important emotional Egyptian singer. He was born in the village of El Halawat, Sharkia Governorate, on June 21, 1929.

He joined the Institute of Arabic Music, Composition Department, in 1943, and graduated in 1949.

The singer worked for 4 years as a music teacher in Tanta, then Zagazig, and finally in Cairo. He submitted his resignation from teaching and then joined the radio band, playing the oboe.

He was discovered by the great broadcaster, Hafez Abdel-Wahhab, who allowed him to use his first name, “Hafez,” instead of Shabana.

He presented his first song, Safeny Mara, which was composed by Mohamed El Mougy, and the poem “Liqa’”, written by Salah Abdel-Sabour and composed by Kamal Al-Taweel. After that, he achieved overwhelming success and was dubbed Al Andaleeb Al Asmar.

As for Shadia, an actress, and singer, her real name is Fatima Ahmed Kamal El-Din Mohamed Shaker, she began her artistic journey at the age of 16.

During her artistic career, which ended with her retirement in 1984, she participated in more than 110 films and presented hundreds of songs for her, a number of radio series, and one play.

She was born in the New Helmeya district of Cairo, but her origins go back to Sharkia Governorate.
