Alexandria Opera House commemorated Sunday the birth anniversary of the iconic Egyptian composer Ammar El Sherei.
The National Arab Ensemble for Music, led by Maestro Mostafa Helmi, performed a selection of El Sherei's remarkable songs and iconic pieces, reminding people of his legacy and spirit.
The concert included pieces like "El Hwa Hwaya", "Ao Ya Smarni", and "Ahlf Bsmaha."
El Sherei was born on April 16, 1948, in the village of Samalot, 25 km from Minya in Upper Egypt, to a large family. His father was Samalot's mayor.
The acclaimed musician was regarded as one of the brightest stars on the Arab music scene.
As composer and performer, El Sherei was known for his unprecedented talent, skill, musical knowledge, and many human values that touched everyone who came across his life path.
Despite his blindness, he was among the very few composers who wrote a concerto for the oud and symphonic orchestra.
Throughout his career, he wrote music for over 50 films and 120 television series, working with many renowned Egyptian directors.
