When the clock ticks 2 am Cairo local time, tune to Discovery channel to join the world-renowned Egyptologist Dr. Zahi Hawass in a trek, unveiling an age-old sarcophagus in Egypt’s Minya Governonorate.
Entitled “Expedition Unknown: Egypt Live,” the broadcast will beam exactly from Al-Gharifa site, a little-known area even for Egyptians.
Throughout the program, Hawass will recount ancient tales akin to king Akhenaten of the 18th Family, who called for unification and declared Amarna, Minya as the modern kingdom’s capital.
With camels, donkeys, sheep sand goats roaming around the pharaonic-dressed cast , the show promises to spellbind viewers with a visualized journey through ancient Egypt.
Hawass will open the coffins alongside Egypt’s Secretary-General of the Supreme Council of Antiquities Dr. Mostafa Waziri and American TV- Presenter Josh Gates.
Gates is the host and co-executive producer of “Legendary Locations” and “Expedition Unknown”- a Travel Channel series which films worldwide archaeological sites.
From climbing mountains to forest gambles and breathtaking sea adventures, Gates has always sticked out his own neck! He certainly doesn’t fear predators and maybe doesn’t give a tinker to superstitious pharaonic curses.
“Me...and my necklace...are ready for tonight,” wrote Gates on twitter. We’ll see!
