Late iconic actor Alaa Waley El-Din will be feted at the 17th National Theatre Festival for his rich artistic career.
In a statement on Monday, the head of the festival Mohamed Riad said the honoring came at the request of Moataz Waley El-Din, brother of the late legend, who called for his honoree for the many works he presented.
El-Din was born in 1963 in Egypt. He was the son of the late actor Samir Waley el-Din. His father starred on stage with prominent actor Adel Imam in the 1970 play “Shahed Mashafsh Haga”.
The actor died at the age of 40 at the peak of his artistic success, on February 11, 2003. He passed away on the first day of Eid al-Adha due to complications from diabetes.
Despite his short lifespan, the late actor was seen in more than 140 television and film roles. He also starred in 3 theatrical productions.
El-Din gained cognition with his roles in films "El Nazer" (2000), "Aboud Ala El Hedoud"(1999), “Al-Irhab wal Kabab” (1992), "Ibn Ezz" (2001), and "Hallaa Hoosh" (1997).
Most of his films achieved great success and gained cult status. Waley El-Din was overweight with a face that many considered a “baby face”.
