Al Ahly will face Barcelona at Camp Nou on Wednesday, 19 August, in a historic match for the 2026 Joan Gamper Trophy as both clubs prepare for the 2026/2027 season.
Barcelona announced that the match will begin at 9:00 pm Cairo time and 8:00 pm Central European Summer Time.
The occasion will carry special importance as Al Ahly are set to become the first Egyptian and African club to participate in the Joan Gamper Trophy, Barcelona’s traditional pre-season event.
The match will also be the first edition of the tournament to take place at Camp Nou following the stadium’s reopening, adding further significance to Al Ahly’s appearance.
Barcelona praised the history and achievements of the Egyptian club, which was founded in 1907. Al Ahly are widely regarded as one of Africa’s most successful football teams, with a record number of domestic and continental trophies.
The August meeting will be the third match between the two clubs. They first met in a friendly in Spain in 1961.
Barcelona later travelled to Cairo in 2007 to face Al Ahly during celebrations marking the Egyptian club’s centenary.
The 2026 fixture will renew the relationship between the African champions and the Catalan club nearly two decades after their last meeting.
The match will form part of the 61st Estrella Damm Gamper Festival, during which Barcelona will officially present their first-team squad to supporters before the start of the new campaign.
The Joan Gamper Trophy returns to Camp Nou after recent editions were held at other venues. The previous tournament was staged at the Johan Cruyff Stadium, while matches against Monaco and Tottenham Hotspur took place at the Estadi Olímpic Lluís Companys.
Barcelona said the team presentation and accompanying events would be available through Barça Play and the FC Barcelona Premium channel on YouTube.
Al Ahly fans are expected to follow the match closely as their club makes its tournament debut against one of the biggest names in world football.
