Ahmed Rateb to Be Honored at Cairo International Festival for Experimental Theater

Late veteran Egyptian actor Ahmed Rateb will be honored at the closing ceremony of the 31st edition of the Cairo International Festival for Experimental Theatre (CIFET), chaired by Ayman El Shewy, slated to run from September 1-11.

The CIFET, founded in 1988, aims to reconsider the state of experimentation in Arab and world theater, reveal and discuss the established aesthetics and forms, and demonstrate their pros and cons.

The television-cinema-and-theatre star passed away on December 14, 2016 Wednesday from a sudden heart attack. He was 67.  Rateb was admitted to a hospital a week prior to his death. 

Rateb was born in Cairo on January 23, 1949, and appeared in 500 films, TV productions, and plays. 

The acclaimed actor is famous for playing the Israeli officer Isaac Bin-Amitay in the 1988 Egyptian Spy-Drama series "Raafat El-Haggan."

Rateb is famous for his collaborations with veteran Egyptian actor Adel Imam, working together in more than 10 films.

He made his last onscreen appearance in season one of the TV series "The Godfather".

In 1999, Rateb received the Egyptian Radio and Television Union's award for his role in the  TV series "Om-Kalthom", portraying renowned Egyptian music composer Mohamed El-Asabgy.
