Egyptian actor Ahmed Helmy will be honored at the opening ceremony of the 24th edition of the Rotterdam Arab Film Festival (RAFF), slated to run from May 30 to June 2 in the Netherlands.
The acclaimed actor will be feted for his artistic achievements and long career in the world of cinema and art.
The RAFF developed from the port city of Rotterdam into an International festival that takes place annually in Rotterdam. It is an artistic platform dedicated to Middle Eastern and North African films and related activities to create a safe space for open conversations about art, human, emancipation, and political freedom.
Born on November 18, 1969, Helmy started his career in 1993 on the Egyptian Satellite Broadcast. He made his acting debut in the 1998 acclaimed film “Aboud Ala El Hodoud” (Aboud on the Borders), co-starring with Alaa Waley El Din, and Karim Abdel Aziz.
Thereafter, Helmy quickly made a jump to leading roles in films such as “Omar 2000”, “El Nazer” (2000), “El Selem We Al Tho’ban” (2001), and "Sahar El Layali" (2003).
