First meeting

“Our relationships started off as friendship, which developed with time, until the time Mona was ready to travel to South Africa to shoot film "Africano" with Ahmed El Sakka, that was when I decided to confess my love for her,” he noted.

Helmy stated that he confessed his love while on a boat accompanied by some of their friends.

“She left without saying anything to me, I told her "Wait a minute, I love you”, but she did not answer and moved rapidly back to her friends on the other side of the boat," he added.

Meeting the in-laws

Helmy decided to meet Zaki’s father after dating for a while. He pointed out that his father-in-law's request was not material, noting that he was adamant for them not to meet alone.

“I want your promise as a man, that you will not meet her on your own,” the actor cited his father-in-law.

Helmy added that he gave him a year to prepare himself, pointing out he used his success in the movie "Ambulance 55" starring Mohamed Saad, and Ramez Galal, to do an advertisement with a telecommunications company and asked for a big pay, about EGP 30,000, to present as mahr to his bride— mahr is the money paid by the groom to the bride before marriage.
