African Union Delegation Visits GEM

The Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM) received on Sunday the Chairperson of the African Union Commission Moussa Faki and his accompanying delegation, during their current visit to Egypt.

El-Tayeb Abbas, Assistant Minister for Archaeological Affairs at GEM accompanied the delegation on a tour that included a visit to the Center for the Restoration of Antiquities and its various laboratories, the foyer which includes the statue of King Ramses II, and Pillar of King Merneptah.

The main hall also includes two royal statues from the Ptolemaic period, in addition to the great staircase and huge monuments.

During the tour, Faki expressed his astonishment at the museum, its design and its unique facade. The delegation was also impressed with the ancient Egyptian antiquities and the huge project that awaits the whole world.

They also expressed their admiration for the restoration laboratories, which are equipped with the latest scientific equipment, and highly skilled Egyptian archaeologists and restorers.
