On Thursday, the final AEW Dynamite episode in 2022 represented the annual special theme, New Year's Smash. It is expected that the show will have new formate and designs starting from the beginning of the new year. The New Year's Smash introduced the major storylines that would kick off the new era. More lines for AEW titles and superstars' feuds were detailed.
Moreover, the show witnessed more developed and focused in-ring representation. The six matches had the required time and all opponents had the good time and space to showcase their talents.

The episode had 1 one title match, two tag team matches, and 2 single matches, alongside the sixth match of the Best of 7 Series for the AEW World Trios titles between Death Tringle and The Elite.
It kicked off with a strong match between two of the best performers in the AEW: "All Ego" Ethan Page, and "The American Dragon" Bryan Danielson.

The contest was strong and both stars worked well inside the ring together, in addition, there was a balanced representation and move encounters between them.

The following match was an impressive tag team contest between Blackpool Combat Club's ROH World Champion Claudio Castagnoli and Jon Moxley against Top Flight.
In AEW Dynamite Holiday Bash, Moxley defeated Darius Martin in a short and cool match. It showed one more time that BCC is still united.
It seemed that Blackpool Combat Club would have more group or tag team work to strengthen the concept of the faction, especially after the departure of Regal.
The extra-aggressive style of Moxley still teased a near heel-turn for him.

Still, Top Flight approved that they would be one of the successful tag teams in the near future. The brothers have outstanding athletic and high-flying techniques.

Next came a short match for Hook that ended with his victory. The latest appearance of Hook showed that the promising young man has a better and stronger shape.
After the match, Hook was attacked by Big Bell and Lio Moriarty, but he was saved by Jungle Boy.
For the third week, AEW added more build-up to Jungle Boy and Hook's union.

The sixth match of the Best of 7 Series for the AEW World Trios titles between Death Tringle and The Elite.
Although fans were concerned over the repetition of the match storytelling and sequence, the change of the final three matches stipulations opened the doors for more creative ideas for both teams to apply.

The sixth match was Falls Count Anywhere. Both teams started the match in a very smart way as they excluded their intros and started the fight backstage. Both teams made use of the boxes, and the steps backstage to execute nice and outstanding high-flying moves, alongside the super-kicks.

It seemed that still the performers execute a few risky moves to Omega in a fear of the renewal of any injuries. It could be part of the match's selling.
Shortly, the majority of the performers move to the ring where they had more freedom to do more impressive moves.
Moreover, the end of the match was so creative as they combined Kenny Omega pinning Phenix outside the ring, and Pac's attempt to force Nick Jackson to tap out inside the ring.

Next came a fine women's tag team match between JAS Anna JAS and Tay Conti against Ruby Soho and Willow Nightingale.

Finally, King of Television ROH World Television and TNT Champion Samoa Joe stepped inside the ring before his match against Wardlow for the TNT title.

Before the episode, Joe attacked Wardlow and injured him. However, Wardlow came to the ring to fight.

It was an outstanding performance between two performers with great physique. The match was enjoyable and catchy.
Joe managed to restore the prestige of the TNT title as the title faced a very dark time since the reign of Sammy Guevara.

After the match, Joe continued attacking Wardlow, and cut his hair. Then, he was stopped by Darby Allin.
It seemed that Allin would seek revenge against Joe after he defeated him a few weeks ago.
It is really good to see more stars begin to direct their eyes to the TNT title which will help the championship to restore its position more.

The rest of New Year's Smash contests will take place in the upcoming AEW Rampage. Two title matches were scheduled for the episode. All-Atlantic Champion Orange Cassidy will defend his title against his Best Friends mate Terent Beretta, and TBS Champion Jade Cargill will defend her title against Kiera Hogan.
Swerve Strickland will face Wheeler Yuta. In addition, AEW Women's World Champion Jamie Hayter and Jon Moxley were scheduled for the episode.
