The Secretary-General of the Arab League, Ahmed Aboul Gheit, received on Sunday the UN Secretary General’s Advisor on Libya, Stephanie Williams.
During their meeting, both officials stressed the necessity of holding Libyan elections, according to the Al-Arabiya news agency.
Moreover, they discussed ways to support the political process in Libya.
It is worth mentioning that the UN official arrived in Cairo on Saturday, to hold talks with several senior officials.
Earlier, Williams stressed that elections are the only path to achieving peace in the country.
She also reiterated the full support of the United Nations and the international community to the HNEC as an independent institution in charge of the electoral process.
Moreover, the UN official affirmed that the holding of inclusive, free, fair, and credible national elections in Libya is the only possible response to the overwhelming and consistent demand of the Libyan people and the only path to peace and stability in Libya.
