Lionsgate and Amazon Studios have announced that a sequel to the 2018 hit mystery-comedy movie “A Simple Favor” is on the way.
The sequel brings back stars Anna Kendrick and Blake Lively, as well as Paul Feig to direct.
Henry Golding, Andrew Rannells, Bashir Salahuddin, Joshua Satine, Ian Ho, and Kelly McCormack will also reprise their roles in the pic.
"A Simple Favor" was based on the 2017 book of the same name by Darcey Bell. It told the story of a widowed single mother named Stephanie, played by Kendrick, who works as a vlogger in Connecticut and looks enviously upon her best friend, Emily (Lively).
Emily has a successful career, a loving family, and a glamorous lifestyle. However, things turn awry when Emily mysteriously disappears one day, causing Stephanie to launch her own investigation into her friend’s past, finding more than a few surprises along the way.
In the sequel, Stephanie and Emily head to the beautiful island of Capri, Italy, for Emily’s extravagant wedding to a rich Italian businessman. Along with the glamorous guests, expect murder and betrayal to RSVP for a wedding with more twists and turns than the road from the Marina Grande to the Capri town square.
“A Simple Favor 2” is targeting a spring start of production and will be available to stream on Prime Video in more than 240 countries and territories worldwide.
The first movie, which grossed 53 million at the domestic box office and more than $97 million at the worldwide box office, was a large commercial success for Lionsgate.
