Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, hosted a historic gathering of religious leaders from BRICS Muslim communities at the conference “The Spiritual Silk Road”, organized in cooperation with Mohamed Bin Zayed University for Humanities (UAE). The event was attended by Russia’s Grand Mufti Sheikh Rawi Ainuddin, Dr. Khalifa Mubarak Al Dhaheri, Director of Mohamed Bin Zayed University, and Dr. Ibrahim Negm, Secretary-General of the General Secretariat for Fatwa Authorities Worldwide, representing Egypt, upon invitation from the Religious Administration of Muslims of Russia.

The conference addressed the role of spiritual and moral values in supporting development, preserving cultural identity, and countering extremism and hate speech through principles of tolerance and mutual respect.

In their joint statement, participants reaffirmed their commitment to Islamic principles of fraternity and cooperation, stressing their responsibility before God and future generations to uphold ethical foundations as a key to the prosperity of nations. They unanimously declared that human and cultural diversity reflects God’s wisdom and serves as a basis for building a multipolar world rooted in respect for religious, cultural, and civilizational traditions.

The declaration highlighted that undermining the traditional family poses grave risks to humanity’s future, making the preservation of family values an urgent mission, including joint work with other faiths and social institutions to instill these values in youth. The leaders also called for ethical frameworks to govern artificial intelligence, while firmly condemning all forms of hatred, extremism, terrorism, fascism, and nationalism, as well as any disrespect toward religions or attempts to restrict believers’ rights.

Sheikh Rawi Ainuddin emphasized that the unanimous resolution reflects the determination of BRICS Muslim leaders to strive for a better world built on shared human values.
