55 Square Meters of Creativity: Imad Al-Senoussi Transforms Tripoli's Walls into a Monumental Tribute to Nature

In the heart of the Libyan capital, an urban façade is being transformed into a striking work of public art. Libyan painter and visual artist Imad Mohammed Al-Senoussi is putting the finishing touches on a monumental 55-square-meter mural spanning three levels, a project set to become one of Tripoli's newest visual landmarks.

Scheduled to be inaugurated at the end of the month on 11 July Street, the mural offers a visual journey celebrating the three fundamental elements of nature—the sea, the land, and the sky—through a composition that combines realism, aesthetic refinement, and symbolic expression.

The first section immerses viewers in the underwater world, portraying the richness of marine life with vibrant colors and intricate details. The second level pays tribute to the land by blending natural scenery with historical heritage, most notably through the depiction of a sunset reflected on both the Mediterranean Sea and the Arch of Marcus Aurelius, one of Tripoli's most iconic landmarks. The third and final section lifts the gaze toward the sky, where birds in flight symbolize freedom, peace, and humanity's aspiration toward new horizons.

To bring the mural to life, Al-Senoussi combined ceramic and mosaic techniques, with support from Al-Qaradi, a company specializing in sanitary ware, ceramics, and porcelain. The company supplied the materials required for the project, demonstrating its commitment to supporting cultural and artistic initiatives.

According to Al-Senoussi, this contribution goes far beyond material sponsorship. It reflects a shared belief in the power of art to improve public spaces, cultivate aesthetic appreciation, and strengthen cultural identity. He believes that the pursuit of beauty represents a common language uniting artistic creativity with industrial craftsmanship.

The mural required nearly three months of continuous work to complete. It enriches Tripoli's urban landscape with a new artistic landmark that combines aesthetic ambition with cultural significance while highlighting the vitality of Libya's contemporary visual arts scene.

Originally from the city of Houn, Imad Mohammed Al-Senoussi is widely regarded as one of Libya's leading visual artists of his generation. His works have been exhibited both in Libya and internationally. Most recently, he represented Libya at the 12th Forum of Art and Beauty, alongside artists from across the Arab world.

His artistic journey is further distinguished by the unique dialogue between his creative practice and his academic background in civil engineering. This dual expertise is reflected in the precision of his compositions, the balance of their structures, and the rigor of their visual construction. For Al-Senoussi, while academic training strengthens technical mastery, talent remains the true foundation of artistic identity and creative expression.

From his earliest acclaimed drawings in his hometown of Houn, Al-Senoussi has continued to expand his artistic career between Libya and Tunisia before participating in numerous exhibitions and cultural events in Egypt, Algeria, Turkey, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, and Jordan, where his work has earned several awards and certificates of excellence.

Once again, this monumental mural demonstrates art's ability to transcend the boundaries of the traditional canvas and inhabit the urban environment. By transforming the city itself into a medium of artistic expression, it enhances public space while offering residents and visitors alike a visual experience that celebrates nature, memory, and beauty.
