The 46th Cairo International Film Festival (CIFF) has officially opened its doors, running from November 12 to 21, and showcasing a diverse lineup of international and regional films.

Among the standout titles in this year’s Official Competition is the documentary "Souraya Mon Amour", scheduled to screen on November 17 at the Cairo Opera House’s Grand Theater.

"Souraya Mon Amour" invites viewers into the intimate world of Thuraya Baghdadi, as she reflects on her life and her complex relationship with her late husband, renowned Lebanese filmmaker Maroun Bagdadi, three decades after his passing.

Using clips from Bagdadi’s 1982 film “Little Wars”, which captured their first meeting, alongside personal archives and interviews, the documentary explores Thuraya’s evolving relationship with her own body after years of dance and meditation, her understanding of grief, and her attempts to revive fragmented conversations with Maroun.

The film offers a fresh, authentic take on the documentary form.

It allows its protagonist to engage in an honest and layered self-reflection, revisiting moments of love, tension, self-definition, and emotional discovery.

Through Thuraya’s journey, the film delves into themes of longing, displacement, and the search for inner clarity after years spent away from home.

With its blend of archival footage, emotional depth, and a uniquely introspective narrative style, "Souraya Mon Amour" is poised to be one of the most talked-about films of this year’s festival.

It offers audiences an immersive experience into the tides of human emotion, memory, and the enduring echoes of love.
