On Monday, "Január 2" feature by Hungarian director Zsófia Szilágyi was screened in the 45th Cairo International Film Festival as part of the International Competition.
The film is a micro-realistic story about separation and divorce from the perspective of the wife’s best friend.
The friend whose name is Agi watched with her eyes the meaning of separation and divorce of her friend Klára.
Klara asked for the help of Agi to use her mother's car to move her belongings from her home where she got married, and a new home where she will live as a single mom.
Seven trips, seven trips Klara, and Agi made to move Klara's belongings with each trip, Agi watches part of her friend's life leaving from the home to move to another home. Hundreds of questions and gloomy insights were observed by Agi which left her in a deep existential question about her relationship with her boyfriend.
Each trip leaves a question open in front of Agi eyes about the deeper meaning of life within a relationship, and the principles of the relationship.
She opens the discussion of existential questions about the one as a single and in a relationship with her depressing overthinking.
She recalls her latest fight with her boyfriend, and the things she loves, and hates about him.
Szilágyi's "January 2" reflects several tendencies of the director's vision and ideology which she started with her "One Day" which was screened in 2018.
"One Day" participated in the CIFF International Competition in 2018.
