On Wednesday, the second screening of Egypt's entry at the 45 Cairo International Film Festival International Competition "Spring Came Laughing" by Noha Adel.
The film presents a different formate of the international competition feature as it follows an episodic structure of 5 episodes or chapters.
Each chapter begins with a cheerful Egyptian situation or gathering and turns into a miserable incident. For example, the gathering between the ladies who celebrate their friend Zouza's 50th birthday turned out to be a fight between Zouza, and her friend who revealed a lot of untold secrets and stories related to the complex relationship between mother-daughter, social norms and values, and sexuality.
The mysterious link between the 5 stories is the motif of spring, flowers, joy, and music that is ruined every year by the dusty winds of Khamaseen.
Adel presents several models of Egyptian women from several classes like housewives, working housewives who support their families financially, high-class ladies, the stereotypes of divorced or widowed women, and brides.
The motifs of spring and flowers play vital, and attractive roles in engaging the audience in the events of the film, in addition, depending on real-life situations, and real Egyptian everyday style of language and delicate adds another value to the film.
