On Sunday, the Cairo International Film Festival (CIFF) revealed the details of the 45th edition that will kick off this month in a press conference.
The President of CIFF veteran actor Hussein Fahmy participated in the event, announcing the programs and the details of the participants.
194 films are set to participate in the activities of the festival in all competitions from 72 countries. CIFF officials asserted that the number of participants could be increased before the opening of the events.
Fahmy highlighted that postponing the last edition wasn't an easy decision, but it came due to the tragic, and horrific events in Palestine. He added that the CIFF teams explained the situation of postponing last year's edition to the International Federation of Film Producers Associations (FIAPF) which understood their stand.
To honor Palestine, Fahmy revealed that the opening film will be the Palestinian feature Passing Dream, continuing that there will be special prizes for Palestinian films, and a whole program called "From Ground Zero" that will be dedicated to films shot and produced in Gaza.
The 45th edition will include 16 gala film screenings, 37 world premiers, 8 international premiers, and 119 MENA premiers.
The festival will also include special screenings of cinema classics like Cleopatra, and the Godfather. In addition, a number of restored Egyptian films will be screened during the events.
Other programs that will be set for the event include Midnight Screanings, Cinema Critic Week, Made in Egypt which is dedicated to international films that were filmed in Egypt, and China Film Week, besides the annual competitions.
CIFF also announced the details of Cairo Industrial Week, Cairo Fim Connection, and the return of Cairo Film Market.
The tributes for this year will include Ahmed Ezz, Youssry Nasrallah, and Danis Tanovic.
