The 40th edition of the Alexandria Film Festival for Mediterranean Countries, headed by film critic Amir Abaza, will be named after iconic Egyptian actress and performer Nelly, in recognition of her rich artistic career and contributions to Egyptian and Arab cinema.
The festival will be held in the coastal city from October 1-6. It is an annual event held in Alexandria, Egypt, and aims to disseminate film culture and the progress achieved in various branches of film art and to strengthen the relations among filmmakers around the globe in general and Mediterranean countries in particular.
Nelly, was born on January 3, 1949, in an artistic family. Her older sister is the star Fayrouz, who is known in Egyptian cinema as the miracle child", and her cousin is the famous star Lebleba.
She began her acting career at the age of four, playing Mona in the 1953 film "El Herman", starring great artist Imad Hamdi, then continued to take on roles in films such as "Asafeer El Ganna", "Rahmat Min Alsama", "Toba", "Hataa Nultaqaa", and so many more.
The iconic actress, singer, and dancer is one of the most important stars of the Arab World. Nelly has great talent in singing, dancing, and acting, and showcased her talents through participation in more than 118 different projects, ranging from cinema, theater, and television.
In the sixties, she began appearing as a young woman in many films, including "Al-moshaghiboun", "Almurahaqa el Saghira", "Agazet Sef", and others. This is in addition to her great contributions to television, where she presented several series, most notably "Al-Dawama", "Mabrouk Galak Weld", "Asht Mrteen", "Bardis", "Enaha majnuna majnuna", "Alf leila wa leila", and "Sanawat alshaqaa' wa alhob".
Nelly made her last onscreen appearance in the 2005 TV series "Qasasis Waraq".
