At least 20 people have been killed and more than 80 injured after severe flooding swept through Afghanistan's eastern Nuristan province, according to officials on Monday.
Afghanistan's disaster management authority said the flooding struck Parun, the provincial capital, and surrounding areas near the border with Pakistan. More than 100 people remain missing as search and rescue operations continue.
Provincial authorities said Parun's mayor and several government officials are among those unaccounted for. Officials have so far recovered nine bodies, with the death toll expected to rise as rescue efforts continue.
