Dr. Jabbar El Aboudi, the head of the Iraqi Syndicate of Acting Professions, announced the launching of the first-ever Baghdad Arab Film Festival.

El Aboudi said that the idea of organzing the festival started with a proposal by Iraqi actor Saad Nema, and Abdel Alim Al Bannaa to make a festival dedicated to the films of the gulf countries, however, the Iraqi Prime President suggested making it dedicated to the Arab film.

On his side, Dr. Hikmat Al Bidany, the director of the festival, expressed his honor to direct the festival and wished the best of luck to his team.

Al Bidany revealed that they received 130 films, including 40 Iraqi, 36 Egyptian, 10 Syrian, 7 Tunisian, 9 Moroccan, 3 Sudanese, 3 Palestinian, 2 Saudi, and 3 Yemeni.

He added that three prizes will be dedicated to long features, one for animation film, and 1 for short films.

In addition, 177 scripts were presented to the festival to select 7 for production.
